History
Our Building
The Crossroads Cookery building has an impressive history from its beginnings in 1907 as a retailer and grocer. Over the years, 117 E. Dewey, part of the historical district of Route 66, has been home to a five and dime store, a Dollar General, a consignment shop, Senegence offices, and finally, the Cookery.
The Sapulpa Herald newspaper from 1915 (c/o the Oklahoma Historical Society) displays an ad next to the “Society” column for one of the grocery retailers who occupied the building, who served “fresh milk from our own cows” and other bulk produce and meat. At the time they sold 48 lbs of flour for $1.25, and 2lbs of coffee for a quarter.
The most longstanding business in the structure was the JJ Newberry Co- a five and dime store which operated from 1930-1973. These businesses played a crucial role in the local economy, contributing to the commercial growth of the city from township to today.
Through more than a century, the historical building has stood the test of time, adapted to a changing commercial landscape, and has been lovingly transformed to reflect it’s ongoing importance to the people in the Sapulpa community. At Crossroads Cookery we honor the rich history and tradition held by this community. We are committed to carry forward the legacy of this place by creating a welcoming environment that celebrates the past while offering a modern dining experience that contributes to the vibrancy of this town. Join us as we blend tradition with today’s culinary delights in the heart of Sapulpa.

Vanuatu
Inspiration for “Upstairs”
The artifacts seen enclosed Upstairs along the walls were collected by Joni and Ben Kante during expeditions in Vanuatu.
Vanuatu is a string of islands in the South Pacific where raw materials were gathered to manufacture the long-lasting and anti-aging skincare products of Senegence.
Each relic is hand-carved, crafted, and colored by the indigenous native tribes, most of whom have rarely left the perimeters of their small villages.
The woven skirts are uniquely designed to reflect family ‘crests.’ Of special note is the long-lasting durability of the natural ingredient colorings sourced from local flora and used to decorate the pieces.
Many of the pieces are hundreds of years old, and handed down from one generation to the next
